Reps. Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Louie Gohmert attempted to check out the January 6 Capitol riot suspects at the DC Department of Corrections on Thursday but had been turned away. They then held a push conference with Virginia Rep. Bob Excellent, expressing that they had been “concerned” about the detainees’ treatment.

Gaetz on Thursday tweeted a online video of himself staying locked out of the Section of Corrections.


“The door’s locked and we are just right here to request queries and now they have locked the doorway and not specified us entry,” Gaetz said in the online video.

Greene, Gaetz, and Gohmert ended up found in another video clip speaking to an officer outside the house the detention middle. They were being advised by corrections officers that they ended up obstructing the entrance to the facility. 

Greene and Gaetz also spoke to members of the push after they visited the facility.

“We suspect there is a two-tier justice method in the United States, for Trump supporters that are charged for January 6, and capture-and-release for Antifa and BLM rioters that have rioted and destroyed cities,” Greene explained.

“We showed up at the facility and sought a tour,” Gaetz mentioned, introducing that he desires to know “what (Attorney General) Merrick Garland is hiding.” 

“We are not users of Congress who will go absent … If you imagine you are mistreated, qualified, abused, or singled out as part of your politics and your lawful activity, know this — we will continue to battle for you,” Gaetz explained.

The Division of Corrections told The Hill in a statement that the lawmakers had been turned absent due to the fact they showed up at the facility “unannounced with an unauthorized camera crew requesting a facility tour.”
