5 many years ago, Pagosa Springs audiences have been delighted to hear an fascinating brass live performance by The Baylor Brass, an outstanding quintet of experienced brass players, led by Brent Phillips, trombone professor at Baylor College. They arrived to Pagosa to initiate a dream, the MLMF. The objective was to set up an once-a-year week-prolonged new music festival and workshop for higher education-stage brass gamers, along with their experienced mentors, and to bring fabulous new music live shows to our local community. In cooperation with area patron Chet Russel, these musicians proceed to hold their festival at Russel’s wonderful venue atop Cade Mountain.
Many thanks to the generosity of enthusiastic audiences, patrons and the cooperation of our neighborhood chamber of commerce, neighborhood companies and city officials, the yearly musical experience has met and exceeded all expectations, bringing talented college students from across the region to work with some of the nation’s prime brass gamers, hone their musical capabilities, learn new literature and attempt to meet up with their most complicated targets. The fascinating finale is a concert of brass music presented to the Pagosa Springs community, the good quality of which equals any you will listen to in the massive town concert halls.
The competition is a lot more than making new music in a rather spot, nevertheless. There is a non secular factor to it as perfectly. Through the program of the week, the musicians go on hikes, go fishing in trout streams and, by way of interactions with fellow musicians, check out the deeper spiritual elements of making audio.
Surely, most musicians do not commit their lives to audio for the most likely substantial economical rewards. There is anything far further, extra enjoyable about the get the job done and supreme glory of producing songs. In accordance to Abby, one particular of the student attendees of the MLMF, “The legitimate beauty of new music is that it connects folks. It carries a message. And we, the musicians, are the messengers.”
